March Madness at Lloyd Harbor
If you think March Madness is only for basketball, think again! Ms. O’Donnell, Library Media Specialist, decided to apply that excitement to a Tournament of Books contest for all the students at Lloyd Harbor School. Some of the brackets featured favorite picture books shared as schoolwide titles read by all classes earlier this year.

Gnomes Love Poems
Adorable gnomes have appeared throughout the hallways of Lloyd Harbor School this month. These gnomes are especially fond of poetry, which explains why they arrived during National Poetry Month! In addition to all those in the hallways, a gnome came to visit each core classroom during the week before spring break. Each gnome was hiding and holding on to a poem.

National Honor Society Induction Ceremony
Cold Spring Harbor was proud to congratulate the National Honor Society 80 inductees! It was an honor for the administration and staff to celebrate students on April 18 at the Performing Arts Center. This is a remarkable accomplishment that validates the students’ dedication and commitment to hard work throughout the years. Congratulations to all!

Retirement Announcement: Mona Hecht
At the April Board of Education meeting, the Board approved the resignation for purposes of retirement for Ms. Mona Hecht, Assistant Superintendent for Counseling, Student Services & Human Resources, who has served in the educational system for 34 years.

Thespian Honor Society
International Thespian Honor Society Induction: Congratulations to the following recipients honoring student achievement in theatre. Five students were inducted to the society on April 17th: Zoe Ableson, Petra Schneider, Amelia Saladino, Angel Tannini, and Charlotte Wells. Music and Theater Workshop teacher, Mr. Daniel Santangelo, recognized them for their work both on and off stage - joined here by administration and past recipients for the ceremony. Bravo!

It’s the perfect combination of sweetness and knowledge when second graders take the stage to embark upon their journey across America to share their wisdom, songs, trivia and sweet smiles! #CSH Unites for World Art Day in April!
Cold Spring Harbor Central School District continues its monthly collaboration amongst all the schools. For April, the theme was “Art in Our Schools Month.” Thank you to all the schools for participating, especially by recognizing that April 15 was “World Art Day.” Nationwide, this is a day to celebrate the arts and appreciate their importance in our lives. It is a day to come together and appreciate the beauty of art in all its forms.

Long Island Science Congress Presentations
Congratulations to the thirty-five Cold Spring Harbor 9-12 grade students who presented their research at the 75th Anniversary Long Island Science Congress. The presentations were held at the Cradle of Aviation Museum in Garden City on Monday and Tuesday, April 15 and 16. Students’ research was judged by Science teachers and administrators from across Long Island.

The Career Fair
On the evening of April 15, a Career Fair was held at the Jr./Sr. High School in the NEST and surrounding classrooms. It was spearheaded by student Nicole Schrock (grade 11), as part of a Girl Scout Project initiative. The evening was open to all, but it was most appropriate for grades 7-12. Students lined up to register for various sessions, and it was a fantastic turnout

Goosehill visits Heckscher Museum & the Tilles Center
Students at Goosehill had the opportunity to visit The Tilles Center concert hall on the campus of LIU Post University in Brookville to watch the production of “Rainbow Fish.” This student matinee adaptation of the beloved storybook by Marcus Pfister enchanted our youngest with innovative puppetry, music and striking scenic effects.

Into The Wood, Jr. The West Side Musical
Be careful what you wish for, as Stephen Sondheim’s and James Lapine’s cockeyed fairytale came to life in this adaptation of their groundbreaking, Tony Award-winning musical. The West Side cast and crew of 5th & 6th graders ignited the stage kicking off their musical production of “Into the Woods Jr.” This story features all of your favorite characters - Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel, Jack (and his beanstalk) and the Witch… in this lyrically rich retelling of classic Brothers Grimm fables.

GROK Night
For those unfamiliar with GROK night at the Jr./Sr. High, it truly is a very intimate gathering where students share their writing and artistic talents published in their very own GROK Magazine book. This incredible student literary and art magazine has received recognition for its excellence in writing and art from the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) through their REALM program, and rightfully so!

Congressional App Presentation in Washinton DC
Congratulations to students, Ryan Smith (Junior), Buster Coden (Senior), Desmond Mehta (Senior) and Milan Lustig (Junior), who were invited to travel to Wash D.C. for the #HouseOfCode Science Fair which is considered "The most prestigious demo day in STEM" and "The new National Science Fair."

K-6 Art Exhibit on Display CSH Library
Thank you to our community for coming out for the student art exhibition reception at the CSH Library on April 9. What a wonderful turnout! Solar Eclipse Pinhole Projectors
Third and fourth graders in Julia Glass’ Science classes, recently created solar eclipse viewers after learning how and why eclipses occur in anticipation of the 2024 solar eclipse. Students constructed pinhole projectors and then used them to practice safely viewing this phenomenon, along with the sun, daytime sky and any future eclipses.

AATSP Poster Contest Winners!
In celebration of World Language month, the fourth-grade FLES students created beautiful posters! Each year, the AATSP (American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese) selects a theme which students show in their posters. This year's theme was “El español y el portugués como lenguas globales: conexiones y oportunidades más allá del aula.”

K-12 Music Chair Brent Chiarello was thrilled to announce some very exciting news. “For the 3rd year running, Cold Spring Harbor has received national recognition by the NAMM foundation with a “Best Communities for Music Education” designation!
