Welcome Dr. Christine Schlendorf Director of STEM
The Board of Education appointed Dr. Christine Schlendorf as the new Director of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathemetics at the July 20 Board of Education meeting. Dr. Schlendorf is looking forward to working with students, teachers, and staff as the Director of STEM for the Cold Spring Harbor School District. She has been a science educator for 18 years teaching high school biology and college biology courses. Dr. Schlendorf obtained a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Manhattan College, a Master of Arts from Stony Brook University and earned a Ph.D. in Science Education from Stony Brook University. She has a teaching certification in biology, a school building leader certification, and attended Harvard University’s New and Aspiring Leaders Program. Previously, Dr. Schlendorf was an administrator at a high school in Brooklyn where she was a Math and Science Chairperson and then Assistant Principal of Instruction. Most recently, Dr. Schlendorf acted as a math and science supervisor for elementary student teachers at Hofstra University in the Education Department and was an Assistant Professor of Biology at Farmingdale State University and Suffolk Community College. Dr. Schlendorf’s research and publications explore predictors of student achievement in high school science, as well as equitable access to a strong science education. She recently presented her research at the 2022 Annual Conference of the National Association of Research in Science Teaching (NARST) where she maintains an active membership. Dr. Schlendorf believes that all students should have access to a rigorous and engaging STEM education so that students can build a strong foundation that will enable them to be successful in these critical fields to further their interest in science, technology, engineering, and math. Dr. Schlendorf shares that she is thrilled and honored to become a member of the Cold Spring Harbor community and will work to continue the educational excellence and enrichment of all students.
