My Native American Name

My Native American Name
What’s in a Name? As part of the fourth grade Social Studies curriculum at Lloyd Harbor, students learned about the importance of names in the Native American culture. For homework, students first needed to find out some information about the origins of their name by interviewing a parent and asking why their name was chosen. Then, they were asked to create their own Native American name that best reflects their individual personality. Many imaginative names and drawings were displayed in the hallway bulletin boards, including these from Ms. Mathews class: “He Who Ate Fire,” “She Who Loves to Bike,” and “She Who is a Winter Wonderland Snow Globe Princess!”
