On November 12, juniors Fiona Meier and Amber Zhou (pictured left to right) earned a half-qualification for the State Championships in Intermediate Public Forum Debate, tying three other undefeated (4-0) teams out of 23 Intermediate Public Forum Debate teams from 13 schools at Schreiber High School, in Port Washington. The debate topic was “Resolved: The United States’ strategy of Great Power Competition produces more benefits than harms.” Fiona & Amber will continue to compete at the December 17 tournament at Syosset and hopefully earn their 2nd half-qualification for the April 2023 State Championships in Speech and Debate held at Hofstra University.
Sophomore Casandra Reilly earned a half-qualification for States in the Speech event of Oral Interpretation, awarded at the November 5 tournament at Kellenberg High School. Thank you to Dr. Michael Andrews, Head Coach Speech and Debate Team and Assistant Coaches, Jeanne Glynn and Nicole Kearnes. Congratulations Fiona, Amber and Casandra!
