Making Ice Cream – YUM!

1n West Side 5th grade science classes, students are currently studying "Matter." The Long Island Science Center visited West Side School, and students explored states of matter through their “Chemistry Concoctions” Program. During this program, students identified the physical states of matter - solids, liquids and gases. They also differentiated between physical and chemical changes. Students made a “Phlubber” polymer to experiment with chemical reactions, and their experimentation culminated in the production of a particularly tasty crystallized concoction, better known as ice cream! Ms. Kerry Markin’s students gobbled up their tasty treats and thanked LI Science Center Educator, Frank Micari, for a truly enjoyable lesson!
