New Fitness Center Opens!

The anticipation for the opening of the new fitness center has been exciting to say the least! Doors opened for the official ribbon cutting the evening of January 31 to showcase the completion of the state-of-the-art Fitness Center at the Jr./Sr. High School. The jaw-dropping reactions at the wonder and creation of this new space was beyond imagination. Since the passing of the Bond in 2019 many projects have been underway, and construction has been ongoing behind the scenes at the Jr./Sr. High School. Director of Athletics, Michael Bongino, is so grateful for all the support and collaboration we received to complete this dream come true facility. We want to extend a special thank you to the Seahawks Athletic Booster Club, architect John Grillo, and resident fitness expert, Don Saladino, for implementing a world-class design. It’s important to note that the Seahawks Athletic Booster Club helped to finance the state-of-the-art equipment and special flooring through fundraising and the generous donations of this community in the amount of approximately $250,000. The remaining portions of this expansive renovation was all part of BOND 2019 funded by our community.
From the moment you step foot into the new space, it gleams with state-of-the-art equipment, an interior turf, high tech ceiling and lighting, and vibrant Neoflex Performance flooring highlighting our school mascot. You can’t help but smile; even QR codes are provided on the equipment for instant tutorials. The beauty of this facility is that it caters to ALL students, at all levels and those with special needs. It will be utilized for health and physical education classes, and team training after school. Over the next three weeks staff and coaches will be trained on the use and safety of the equipment in preparation for classes to begin next week.
At the ribbon cutting, Director of Athletics, Mike Bongino, had difficulty holding back his emotions as he gazed upon the space and reflected upon its ten-years in the planning. His heartfelt words to community members, whom he referred to as “family,” spoke volumes as he let them know they have always been the best and most special part of what makes this community unique. He shared, “The completion of this project was due to the generosity of this community, the vision and long-term commitment of the Athletic Booster Club, the dedicated Board of Education members who for years placed faith in the belief that this fitness center could be done, the administrative team that supported and guided ideas, Architect John Grillo, and Don Saladino whose expertise cemented a design based on the needs of all students. I am so grateful to embrgace this new facility which will benefit the health and wellness of students for years to come.”
