  • Natural Helpers Social - Nice to Meet You!

    On November 19, the Jr. Helpers, and a few Natural Helpers, spearheaded a "New Entrant Social" designed to engage our new Jr./Sr. High students and their grade-level buddies in community building activities. The afternoon began with individually packaged ice cream sundaes as students sat appropriately separated with shields and progressed into fun icebreakers that offered students the opportunity to get to know each other better.

  • THANKSGIVING FOOD DRIVES

    Thank you to all the schools district-wide for sponsoring Thanksgiving food drives. The responses from our community were beyond generous, and we thank all the students, faculty, and families for your participation and donations to so many local families in need. These donations were distributed to the Helping Hand Rescue Mission in Huntington Station.

    Bonjour! Madame Koob and Madame Reed would like to thank the CSHPTG for their generous donation to the French Club for sponsoring their endeavor to provide take-home treats of Belgian waffles, Nutella and Bonne Maman jam to celebrate National French Week. Merci Beaucoup!

  • BEACH CLEAN UP - CSH Marine Biology Class

    Taylor Carlin (Class of 2012) along with science teacher, Ms. Erin Oshan, held a beach clean-up at West Neck Beach on November 7th. 67 students ranging from 7th to 12th grade were in attendance. Ms. Oshan reported, “We collected over 50lbs of trash from the beach, marsh area and causeway. Taylor volunteers with the organization, Green Sakthi, based out of India and provided the students with 2 hours of community service for helping.

  • Green Light a Vet

    Thank you Lloyd Harbor students, for continuing the tradition of “Green Light a Vet” for Veterans Day this year, and sending in your photos to Ms. Palmer’s 5th-grade class. The meaning of “Green Light a Vet,” is a campaign nationwide to support our Veterans by changing one light to green outside (or somewhere visible) to show your support, appreciation, and recognition in your community.

  • Music Honors

    In October, the Board of Education recognized five All-State Music Honor students. Congratulations to Sarah G. Lynch, (All-State, Treble Choir), Jessica McCrorie, (All-State, Treble Choir), Katherine McGee, (All-State, Treble Choir), Matthew Ross, (All-State, Symphony Orchestra), and Julianne Massa, (All-State Alternate, Jazz Tenor Saxophone), These talented students will take part in virtual master classes with students from around the state, as well as perform in a virtual All-State Concert that will be released later in the year.

  • KidOYO

    5th graders from Ms. Gerver’s class at West Side love doing computer coding challenges! Media Specialist, Ms. Fraiberg, teaches 4th-6th graders twice a week at West Side, along with Ms. Diehl who teaches KidOYO at Lloyd Harbor. Third graders are excited to begin in January; Ms. Fraiberg shared, “The kids love it! Sometimes the focus is so intense that it is completely silent; other times kids will help others nearby, even while social distancing.”

  • National Art Honor Society

    The Annual National Art Honor Society Induction was held virtually on November 5th to the delight and pride of Art Department Chair, Ms. Christine Oswald, and the entire district art department! Each recipient recited the official pledge as members, “I will in my life, to the best of my ability through my talents in art, help to create a more beautiful world for myself, for humankind, and for all living things.”

  • Tenure Granted

    Congratulations to Lauren Blackburn (tenure area of Teacher Assistant), who was granted tenure at the recommendation of the Superintendent at the October Board of Education meeting. Goosehill Principal, Ms. Herschlein, along with the Superintendent, Robert C. Fenter, the Board of Education, and Administration offered congratulations with the highest of praise and support.

  • National World Language Honor Society Induction

    On November 12th, the Cold Spring Harbor World Language Honor Society held its first virtual induction ceremony to recognize the 2020-2021 World Language Honor Society Inductees for French and Spanish studies. Highlights of the virtual ceremony included an inspiring keynote speech from 2019 graduate, Sterling Rosado, along with several incredible student performances. Sterling, currently on a gap year from Harvard University, drove home the importance of the three C’s of language learning: connection, consistency, and continuity.

  • Honoring Our Veterans

    Each year in November, the Jr./Sr. High School invites Veterans in to speak with the students. Although Veterans could not come in person this year, that didn’t stop the program from continuing via zoom. Both remote students and in class students were able to link in, and participate intimately with various speakers about their military experiences. In Mr. Cootner’s Social Studies class, students had the privilege to listen to U.S, Army Ranger, Mr. Joe Palermo, who served in the military from 2002-2006 deploying several times to Iraq and Afghanistan.

  • Goosehill Votes

    At Goosehill, Principal Herschlein focused on teaching children about the important act of voting and being a respectful citizen of our country. All the students had a chance to cast their secret ballot on a very important referendum – which was choosing the indoor recess game they would like for their classroom.

  • Math was never so much fun!

    Ms. Thompson’s 3rd graders at West Side played a game called Zap! The students worked in teams to solve math word problems, and cooperatively explained and reviewed their solutions. Teams that solved the problem correctly got to send one player up to pick Zap cards out of the hat to collect points. They can collect as many points as they like, but they need to watch out for the Zap!
