#CSHUnites for RED RIBBON WEEK - West Side School

National Red Ribbon Week is recognized each year in October as the nation’s largest and longest-running health and drug prevention awareness program. Schools across the nation teach the importance of living a drug free life, healthy living and being kind to your mind and body. As part of the #CSHUnites initiative, grade level activities were planned to support Red Ribbon week. On Wednesday October 23, staff and students district wide wore RED in recognition of National Red Ribbon Week, as well as uniting in participation for assemblies, reading books, lessons in health classes (focused on nutrition, bullying, peer pressure and decision making) and discussions relating to healthy choices and drug prevention and awareness.

At West Side, a “Wear Red” kick-off morning assembly was held on Oct. 23. Lessons were shared by Dr. Barnes and staff to encourage enthusiasm and awareness for Red Ribbon Week to stand united against dangerous decision making and a commitment to living healthy lives and supporting one another in making positive choices. The week-long campaign initiative was a great way to educate grade-level appropriate lessons about the daily challenges of unhealthy influences and habits that could include drugs/alcohol, video games, social media, screen time, healthy eating and living choices. The goal is to empower students with good decision-making skills for their physical and mental well-being. Students sampled healthy snack options during lunch periods (Thank you Gerri Tiger and parent volunteers.) The week consisted of spirit days which included Sock Day, Hat Day, Bling Day, Neon Day and more….with messaging to support Red Ribbon Week activities and commit to a healthy future!
