#CSHUnites for RED RIBBON WEEK - Lloyd Harbor School

National Red Ribbon Week is recognized each year in October as the nation’s largest and longest-running health and drug prevention awareness program. Schools across the nation teach the importance of living a drug free life, healthy living and being kind to your mind and body. As part of the #CSHUnites initiative, grade level activities were planned to support Red Ribbon week. On Wednesday October 23, staff and students district wide wore RED in recognition of National Red Ribbon Week, as well as uniting in participation for assemblies, reading books, lessons in health classes (focused on nutrition, bullying, peer pressure and decision making) and discussions relating to healthy choices and drug prevention and awareness.

In celebration of National Red Ribbon Week, Lloyd Harbor School emphasized healthy living and the importance of caring for both mind and body. On Tuesday, October 29, students and staff were encouraged to wear RED to school as a visual reminder of the lessons learned throughout the week. Health and classroom activities focused on promoting healthy choices, handling peer pressure, and making sound decisions. Continuing their tradition from last year, a special RED Fruits and Veggies Tasting table was available during lunch periods for all grades. And what a success this was! (Thank you, Gerri Tiger!) During this tasting on October 29 individual portions of nutritious “red” snacks—such as red apples, grapes and cherry tomatoes were provided and prepared by our food services team under the guidance of Ms. Gerri Tiger. Students enjoyed a sampling cup and learned the benefits of each tasting. Physical Education and Health teacher Katherine Fiola visited classrooms throughout the week for discussion and lessons about healthy choices and smart decisions when it comes to our minds and bodies. The goal is to empower students with good decision-making skills for their physical and mental well-being. Thank you to all the schools for supporting this very important Red Ribbon Week commitment to a healthy future!
