Richard Smith Appointed Director of Security for Cold Spring Harbor Central School District
The Cold Spring Harbor Central School District is pleased to announce the appointment of Richard Smith as the new Director of Security. Mr. Smith will officially begin his role during the Winter Recess. With over 35 years of experience in law enforcement, including 29 years as a supervisor, Mr. Smith brings a wealth of knowledge, professionalism, and leadership to this critical role.
Mr. Smith’s distinguished career with the Town of Riverhead Police Department highlights his dedication to public safety and community engagement. As Police Captain from 2002 to 2024, he demonstrated exceptional administrative capabilities, overseeing budget preparation, grant writing, personnel management, and the development of departmental policies and procedures. His proactive approach to enhancing efficiency and effectiveness has earned him recognition within the law enforcement community.
In his various roles, including Police Lieutenant and Police Sergeant, Mr. Smith prioritized crime prevention, crisis management, and community relations. He has been instrumental in implementing proactive policing strategies,and fostering strong partnerships with civic organizations and other law enforcement agencies. His expertise in active shooter preparedness, and de-escalation techniques underscores his commitment to ensuring safety in dynamic environments.
