Message from the Principal
Dear West Side Families,
As I look out of the window in my office I’m enjoying the beautiful view of flowers planted by our children. I’m excited for September and the upcoming school year.
I am truly honored to be the new principal of West Side School in Cold Spring Harbor. Since my appointment in May I’ve engaged in learning about this very special community. The West Side Run helped me to see the close relationships among families. Dr. Bellino has spent a great deal of time with me, touring me around the building, catching me up on the ins and outs of West Side and supporting such a smooth transition of leadership; I am grateful for Dr. Bellino’s smart work and dedication to West Side.
In June I was fortunate to come to West Side twice and facilitated an assembly where children presented me with a lovely welcome banner. I enjoyed seeing the smiling faces of our children, shared a bit about who I am and began to hear from them about what’s most special here at West Side School.
While I’ve lived in NYC and abroad for quite a while, I was born and raised on Long Island and found my way back here two years ago. My husband, Avi, and our children, Simon and Gabe, bring so much joy, love and laughter to my life.
I’ve been an educator for almost twenty-five years, teaching for thirteen years primarily in New York City and leading schools in New York for ten years. Working closely with children and supporting teachers have always been my passion. Engaging learning communities through inquiry, student-centered experiences and service are important values that I hold close to my heart.
West Side has such a rich history and I am eager to learn all about it. I’ve begun talking with our seasoned staff members and I’m reading through the archive of documents in the office to help me understand the unique traditions of West Side. Donna Buttacavoli, our office secretary, is an incredible resource and I’m grateful to have her support this summer as we plan for a wonderful launch to another year of learning together.
Building relationships with each of you is integral to our partnership. I am eager to meet you and to begin to know your family. If you have time to come to the office for a visit over the summer I would love it. Please call the office to set up a time that is convenient for you.
I’m hoping that you enjoy all of what makes the summer special and I look forward to seeing you all very soon.
