    Lemelson-MIT EuerkaFest (LMIT) At MIT Cambridge, MA

    Thirteen Cold Spring Junior/Senior High School students from grades 9 to 12 attended the 3-day Lemelson-MIT EuerkaFest held from June 10 to June 13 on the campus of MIT in Cambridge, MA. Research teacher Jaak Raudsepp explained that EurekaFest is an event that empowers student inventors and encourages creativity and problem solving. The programming featured the eight 2024 Lemelson-MIT InvenTeams, high school students from across the country who received an InvenTeam grant to build a working prototype to solve a real-world problem in their community or beyond.

    The Exemplary Service Award was presented to Valerie Massimo at the June 11 Board of Education meeting. Every year, at this time, the Board wishes to honor an employee who supports, with great distinction, our school community. The criteria for eligibility established in order to be considered for the award includes having worked in the district for at least five years, have the unanimous recommendation of the administration and the Board, and exemplify leadership and excellent character among others.

    A new initiative was on display at Lloyd Harbor School on June 12 which highlighted the extraordinary artwork of fifth and sixth grade students. This outdoor gallery in the courtyard, accompanied by student musicians on string instruments, made for an enchanting entrance into an evening of art under the setting sun.

    MakerSpace Inventions by our 5th graders….

    Lloyd Harbor's Little Theater was bursting with creativity on June 10 as fifth graders shared their MakerSpace projects with their families and each other. Throughout the month of May and into early June, students worked in the Creative Learning Lab with their classroom teachers and Library Media Specialist, Whitney O'Donnell, to test their creativity, imagination and engineering skills!

    Graduates Walk the Hallways of Their Elementary Schools and Share a Senior Breakfast on Graduation Day!

    Last year, Jr./Sr. High Principal Daniel Danbusky was excited to spearhead a new initiative for the graduating seniors. This heartfelt tradition was emotional not only for the soon to be graduating seniors as they took their “senior walk” down the halls of their elementary schools – but it proved to be just as emotional for their former teachers. Alumnae of Lloyd Harbor and West Side Schools traveled by bus in caps and gowns to pay homage to their former teachers and walk the halls again six years later.

    Congratulations to the Girls Varsity Track and Field Team NY STATE Championship ALL State titles in all events! Megan Jasinski won 4th place finish in the 800; Mulada, Cotek, Madeira and Jasinski placed 3rd in the 4 x 400m relay; and Jasinski, Mulada, Madeira and Garra placed 4th in the 4 x 800m relay - Way to Go Seahawks! Amazing!

    Superintendent, Jill M. Gierasch, hosted the annual Parent Leader Breakfast “al fresco” style the morning of June 7. She articulated how important the parent community is to a school district, and that the degree of volunteerism is remarkable in this community and it does not go unnoticed. Not only do these parent groups support so many programs, but they seamlessly run themselves!

    NY Hall Of Science

    Lloyd Harbor 5th graders had a blast at the NY Hall of Science field trip in June. There were so many things to explore, it was hard to know where to begin! Students really embraced the many hands-on experiences the museum provides. They were thrilled to learn and play at the Bubble Experience exhibit, wowed by the World of Microbes, and challenged by the concepts explored in the World of Mathematica.

    At Lloyd Harbor School, Mental Health Awareness month in May continues to bloom and grow on the students’ Mandala Tree! School Social Worker, Elle Fuller, worked with students at Lloyd Harbor who all had the opportunity to color a mandala and then add it to the “Growing Your Mental Health Tree” designed by art teacher Katrina Albanese.

    Hunting-TONY Awards

    The Hunting-Tony awards are presented to school productions from the 9 High Schools in the Town of Huntington for both play and musical productions. This year, the CSH High School production of Gypsy won for Best Orchestra Pit! Gypsy was nominated for 4 other awards: Caleigh Tozer for Best Featured Actress in a Musical, Amelia Saladino for Best Supporting Actress in a Musical, Best Technical Production in a Musical, and Best Stage Set Design in a Musical.

    Colonial Day at Lloyd Harbor

    Lloyd Harbor 4th Graders treated their parents and guests to a culminating musical performance celebrating Colonial Day times. Under the direction of music teacher, Leah Martin, students sang, danced and played instruments, as well as regaled us with all kinds of Colonial Day knowledge. The costumes were amazing as they took a step back in time to learn and teach their families even more about life in Colonial times.
