Welcome to Lloyd Harbor School, where learning is challenging, collaborative, and creative! Each day we welcome almost 400 students through our doors. Our award-winning LHTV Morning News show is broadcast live every day, bringing our school community the top stories, weather, lunch choices, birthdays, and Words of Wisdom.
In Core and Encore classes, children learn by discovery, often in workshop models and cooperative learning groups, which is indicative of 21st century learning. Students learn to think analytically and creatively, and technology enhances their experiences. Beginning in second grade, students work on iPads, Chromebooks, laptops, and other interactive devices. Instruction is differentiated, so children learn at levels that are best for them, where their “gifts and talents” are celebrated. The themes of respect, responsibility, and determination are at the center of everything we do. Children learn to develop a growth mindset and GRIT Additionally, LHS has adopted their very own superhero named The Amazing KAP, who appears on certificates adults give out as children demonstrate Kindness, Altruism, and the Power of a smile!
Academics are enriched through school-wide activities. Our Student Council is actively involved in planning events that promote character education, while building spirit and unity. Extracurricular activities include choices such as Math Olympiads, Robotics, and Intramurals. In addition to band, orchestra, and chorus, our music program offers choices such as the Harbortones (select chorus), a 5th/6th grade musical production, and small-group instrumental ensembles. Many of our students participate in our NYSSMA Festival, as well as all-county groups.
The LHS Parent Teacher Group effectively contributes to the culture of our school. Families remain involved in various ways. Please visit the LHSPTG website (click on the "For LHS Parents" link on the side) to find out more about how you can enhance our home-school relationships.
As the proud principal of Lloyd Harbor School, I encourage all of you to communicate with us openly and frequently. This website will assist you in remaining connected with the school community.
