Federal Reserve Challenge CSH Team selected as only one of two teams on Long Island!
May 16, The Federal Reserve Bank of New York announced the results of this year’s High School Fed Challenge, which is an academic paper competition in which student teams researched and analyzed an economic theme, then wrote podcast scripts reflecting their research. The selected podcast scripts will be published in this year’s Journal of Future Economists, to be released this summer.

Latin Dance Lessons
Junior and senior high Spanish students were invited to attend a Latin Salsa Dance event, hosted by Ballroom of Huntington and sponsored by the Cultural Arts Committee (CAC). Instructor Charlie Wood was joined by alum Brittany Debenedictis – class of 2014! The morning assembly in the new gym celebrated the rich traditions of Latin dance showcasing a variety of styles including salsa, merengue, tango and bachata.

Friendship Bench Ribbon Cutting
What a special moment at Lloyd Harbor School on May 22 with the unveiling of their “Friendship Bench” outdoors in the playground area. Student council, staff, classes and even the Lloyd Harbor club cheerleaders spread the news, with the school’s first-ever Jazz Band leading the charge! School Improvement Team (SIT) members were instrumental in organizing this event which positively impacts the school’s culture aiming to foster a supportive and nurturing environment for all students.

A Visit and Lesson from The Children’s Museum
K-1 students and staff were delighted to welcome back the Long Island Children’s Museum Educator Jennifer Henriquez, for a lesson in engineering building concepts. Structures made of colorful foam balls and toothpicks were created in multiple shapes and designs. They learned about how architectural design foundations from around the world can be make of squares and even triangles.

Student Research Symposium
The Cold Spring Harbor School District hosted its annual high school Research Symposium on May 21, 2024. About 45 students from the research program were in attendance from the various research courses offered at the high school, including Foundations of Research, Advanced Research II and III, and Independent Research.

Regeneron International Science & Engineering Fair (ISEF) Milan Lustig Wins 3rd place
On May 17th, 2024 in Los Angeles — The Society for Science announced Grand Awards of Regeneron ISEF 2024. Student winners are 9-12 graders who earned the right to compete by winning a top prize at a local, regional, state or national science fair. 1,700 students from 70 countries competed in 22 categories at this year's ISEF.

2024 Claire Friedlander Foundation Upstander Award: Samuel Davis First Place Winner!
On May 20, Samuel Davis (grade 11) was presented with a 1st place award and $5000 educational scholarship in the category of Suffolk County High Schools at the 14th Annual Upstander Awards at Westbury Manor. These awards were presented on behalf of the Holocaust Memorial & Tolerance Center of Nassau County and the Claire Friedlander Foundation.

NYSSMA Level 6 Gold Status Achievement! CSH High School Chamber Orchestra
On May 21, music teacher Amanda Segale and her student performers from the CSH Chamber Orchestra attended the NYSSMA Majors Festival at Hofstra University. The ensemble of 28 members (grades 9-12) performed a challenging level 6 program for a panel of adjudicators and were awarded a Gold rating!

ASSET Scholarship Award: Zabelle Bobelian
Congratulations to senior Zabelle Bobelian for winning the ASSET Scholarship Award! Students across Long Island are invited to submit a video capturing their innovative usage of technology to a panel of judges based on understanding the fundamental concepts of technology operations, effectiveness at troubleshooting current technologies and exploration of emerging technologies.

LITTLE APPLE FUN RUN
Thank you to all that participated in this year’s Little Apple Fun Run! It was a beautiful day for our school and community. Held on June 19, the Fun Run not only hosted a 1-mile race for participants of all ages but added some new surprises! The students loved the DJ, photo booth, custom donuts, face painters, and a dunk tank featuring Mr. Chiarello and Mr. Monastero who were more than willing to take the plunge to the students’ delight!

International Day at West Side
Students at West Side taught us that it truly is “a small world after all.” As these third graders marched into the gym, flags in hand and speeches prepared, the kids taught so much about the many countries and continents in our world. Donning official costumes and shouting out their country name, each paid homage to their social studies curriculum at this annual celebration. Fun facts, trivia and even jokes were shared with all the students’ special guests in attendance.

EAT - SLEEP - MATH - REPEAT!
Students at the elementary level take math competitions very seriously! All year long, both Lloyd Harbor and West Side School participate in the “Math Olympiads” monthly for grades 4-6. They are put to task for problems of the week and monthly challenges. West Side teacher Kerry Markin shared, “We want students to see themselves as problem solvers and mathematicians.

Tee UP & Order UP! Jr. High STEAM Food Trucks & Golf Courses
There was so much excitement in the air with the anticipation of the Junior High “STEAM Reveal” for the 7th grade Instagram Bakery Shops and 8th grade Mini-Golf Course debut! As students showcased their “cultural themed” projects outside in the courtyard of the new science wing, fellow junior high students took turns “ordering up” the many delicious food items from the simulated Instagram shops and practiced their golf skills on the table-top putting greens.
