B. The 'Old Schoolhouse'

  • Records indicate that a school in Lloyd Neck existed in 1850. It could have been the school at Lloyd Manor, rebuilt and repaired. A remembrance of a former pupil, Catherine Adelia Rogers, tells about bringing pebbles in from the shore and putting them on the teacher’s desk to learn the multiplication tables. This school served Lloyd Neck for the balance of the 19th century until the Lloyd Neck School was built.
